Thanks to everyone for your support. Likewise, to Jon for leading the group and keeping us focused. I think we did well as a group! Congrats to ALL!

Way to go guys! Nice results. lots of metal for the tribe!
The only bad bad thing with cat 1 is I'm missing the bbq party. I'd probably end up in a coma if I eat before the race. good seeing you all out there, especially jon healed up and racing again.
here's my report
Anyway, yesterday was another hot one and I could still feel the effects of a wild Friday night so I had no expectations at all. We had plenty of time so I got a good warm up with Luis, and still had time to hang out and complain about the heat, filling bottles etc. Getting ready for start they lined up the SS class right after the pro's so I was looking forward to get run over by the 19-29 and 30-39 groups on the first climb.
Out the gates and over the creek I was surprised to learn that I had no major problems keeping up with the front group. I was the last of 7 and we quickly built a gap to rest the field(13 in total). On the second climb I passed a couple of guys, one of which got me back less than a minute later. Still gained one spot and decided to do settle in the pace that I had, after all, it was 85 degrees and twenty miles to go. Coming to the super fun and fast pump track like ending of the lap I was feeling really good and excited to be in sixth. Not having been caught by the geared guys was also a boost.
Going out on second I could still see the guy in 5th and I got closer every climb only to lose him on the flats/descents. In the middle of the second lap the geared guys started passing me, and at times I found myself riding way faster than I wanted too. Mostly to find a good spot for them to pass but sometimes just to see if I could. Never washed out though I had a couple of close calls. Passed one more SS-guy on the second lap and I was now in fifth. I had this feeling a guy or two were gonna catch up, but looking back now and then I didn't see any SS'ers closing in.
Coming around for lap three I was still feeling good, kind of just waiting to hit the wall but it never happened. I was very happy with my gearing choice of 32x19. I never had to get off, and since I needed to coast once in a while to reserve some energy spinning out was not a big issue. Third lap I was mostly riding alone, still getting passed by geared guys now and then.
Going out on the fourth and last lap I was pretty confident that I could keep my spot unless I blew up completely. Passed many riders that hit the wall from other age groups. Coming down on the first descent I see the SS'er who got 1st in Tymor and 2nd in wayway packing up from fixing a flat and figure that I get to borrow his 4th spot for a while. Climbing the switch back I can see him just a couple of turns back and I know I have to keep it up for another 20-25 minutes. 10 minutes later, I'm still ahead of him and I see Emrah in the third spot suffering up a climb(He told me he had bad cramps after the race). Getting up in third spot was like getting a nitro and I knew I had a chance for my first Cat1 Podium but couldn't relax until I got out on the last piece of fire road. I went hard the last mile or two when I got out on the road and looked back at an empty trail I knew I had it. Sweet!

What a race! Want to thanks everyone who came to LM to participate or just hang around. CHUTE CHUTE CHUTE!! You killed it out there man. Congrats to your first gold and more to come. Congrats to Erwin for bagging the third on his category. I guess you need to have that chainkeeper fixed. i would recommend PAUL CHAIN KEEPER. 4 in our team are using them, 3 of which joined LM race and encountered no problem. Congrats to Viking for a very strong podium finish in CAT1... in CAT1!! Way to go man. Keep it up. Congrats also to Merlin, slevin29, Eros(jon's friend) and greyZ for completing their first ever races. and to everybody who joined, moe, jon, freearrow, we did a good job out there. Although i did got a "nice comment" on NJ forum. I guess its all part of this thing we got ourself into ;D ;D.
Race recap.
As usual, i tried to put myself on third spot before the first climb.. but lost my chain on the second climb. got passed by 3 of my fellow SS'er. I tried to regain my spot at the end of the first lap. As i was climbing on the first hill into my second lap, i felt tired and lost the 2 guys ahead of me.. and as the second lap ended i was already fourth, giving my spot to a stronger SS rider. Now on the last lap, i can feel both my legs starting to cramps... i can't push any more.. and as i was climbing the rooty hill, i looked back and saw NJ ss'er steadily gaining on me. He did passed me on the gravel climb. I managed not to walked until the last descend to the finish line. Bottom line.. train train train.
