hey guys! I've read a lot about the trail in East Setauket. spoke to a few riders in LI and they gave it an excellent review as well. supposedly climbs galore, and techy stuff, and maybe just the best trail in LI. this trail is about as far as Glacier Ridge. read some review on CLIMBONLINE.ORG and go to Other Trails in the forums to see what other riders are saying about this trail system. supposedly now marked, but map is still not available.
if you guys are interested, post up and we'll arrange for a group ride and explore this trail. now I just wish that this crazy weather would let up!

I'm going to ES tomorrow. Any tribesmen interested? Some people from climb are meeting up at 7am so I'll be leaving queens early!!! Figured it would be good to ride with someone that knows the trail the first time.

If I will be able to wake up earlier than usual for a ride, I'd come and meet you guys there. otherwise, i'll prolly just do CHP. if i dont make it, you guys have a fun, safe ride.

I know, it's early!! Anyways, I'm picking up Erwin at 6am so we are definitely going. Just got back from CHP, a little slippery but should be better tomorrow if it doesn't rain too much tonite.
Hope to see you tomorrow, otherwise have fun in cunny.

A quick report from ES. Erwin and I met up with 6-7 other local riders and hit the whole system yesterday. We logged around 17 miles and almost 2 hours of ride time with only a couple of short stops except for when my chain broke and we had to take five to repair it. Thanks Erwin! The trail has a good mix of everything. Some sections are like glacier ridge, very tight and twisty but not as smooth, one section with very steep short climbs, and another section with longer but not as steep climbs. Among the LI trails this is the toughest one for SS, but doable if you know when to build your momentum. The only propblem was that the hills were sometimes longer than the momentum Sorry, no time for pics this time.

I'm glad you guys had the opportunity to check out this trail. my questions to you are: is the trail well marked? also, is it SS friendly? I know it's SS doable from what others have said, but would you recommend it especially to first timers on that trail? or would you suggest gears are the way to go for ES? maybe we'll plan for this weekend trip up there (as long as it's not a 7am wheels down ;D).

The trail is well marked, it feels a lot like stilly or GR, you cross fire roads a lot of times but once you're on the single track there are not a lot of intersections. One exception; the west side is not marked or on the trail map because CLIMB is still in negotiations about that section. This part is about 3 miles and holds the longer climbs. It's still easy to follow the trail though.
As for SS'ing. Unless people posses massive leg muscles like Sensei himself SS is challenging at times and you might have to push your bike in 3-4 places.
I'm willing to push up the starting time to 8AM ;D

hey guys wazzuppp? it's been a long two weeks vacation but i'm baaaack. i miss riding with the group and looking forward to resuming my regular biking schedule. I will probably stay local tomorrow coz i want to watch the Olympic b-ball gold medal game this Sunday @ 3 am. Irwin have fun and train hard for the race, I heard you registered already. For me i'm not sure yet, I may have to go for knee surgery before my hospital close its door for good this September ( I think) . Just want to take advantage of my benefits. Viking, I hope everything went well with your surgery. See you guys.

yeah, I think I'm gonna stay local myself, possibly CHP or Stillwell. I think it's best when a lot of us are riding together, exploring new trails. we still have a lot of summer left, and what the hey, winter is not so bad for riding as well.
to all the guys racing, remember - wax on, wax off. train and train hard. hope you guys do well on the upcoming race.
maybe i'll see some of you tomorrow. have fun, be safe.
