Windham Mountain in New York state has been revealed as the venue of the final round of the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
It will be the first World Cup round held in the US since 2005, when the series visited Angel Fire resort in New Mexico, and the first final in mainland America since Vail, Colorado in 1992 (the final was held in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1996).
Windham Mountain is a family-oriented resort in the northern Catskill Mountains, 2.5 hours north of New York City. It has hosted national series races for the past two years.
The event on August 28-29 will include cross-country, downhill and four-cross racing. It is expected to attract most of the world's top riders because the world championships take place just one week later at Mont Sainte-Anne in Canada, which is less than 500 miles away.
Organiser Jeff Frost, of Blue Wolf Events, said: "With New York City only two-and-a-half hours' drive, and Boston only three hours, I think we will see a lot of people come out for this race. It's been a long while since such a concentration of mountain biking talent has visited these shores. I'm getting goose bumps already thinking about the excitement it will generate. The World Cup circuit has gotten so competitive again, and there is so much at stake in the finals, I think the atmosphere is going to be just electric."
