Hey Merlin. I was just wondering if you could have just changed the bearing of your XTR hub to ceramics. I think there are upgrades for that? Except for the dirt; your hub still looks great. Love the bling though.

Thanks. Bike is dirty coming back from CHP. LOL. It is clean now.
Shimano BB are not serviceable. If you open it, you may not be able to put it back together. I think Shimano uses ball bearings instead of cartridge bearings. So ceramic cartridge may not fit inside.

I think Shimano uses ball bearings instead of cartridge bearings. So ceramic cartridge may not fit inside. wow...can you please double check this statement of yours - if you posted this somewhere else. I bet you will get into flame wars. My M952's are cartridge, and that was 10yrs or so ago. Maybe Shimano XTR on the 80's started on cup&cones, cage bearings too. But then, ball bearings materials used were not like the LX's & XT's. Come on now, SRAM maybe ahead of Shimano....(not sure bout this, just me), but ball bearings on their top of the line gruppo! also, replacement cartridge bearing is available like the enduro's , whatever ceramic type you want. And this Industrial Bearing that they call, which back then are for industrial only are now widely used to any type application & can be purchase cheaper & by bulk...if you just search & use your digital or old caliper. 2-3 yrs ago Ceramics came to the world of RC and only pro drivers running it. But then it's just a stardard now....still expensive, but then anyone can get it now to replace the regular bearing engine with a ceramic.... just my one centavo ;D off topic again .... with all the snow and no riding...after clearing all the snow up around my house.....my thoughts were like....why I take the XR50 out and PLAY. But then it won't start >:(CRAP . So, with all that frustration...took the Iron Horse around the neighborhood and was able to play....right Rockhopper?

Thanks! That is why I said the word "may". I remembered using ceramic Boca bearings for my Serpent Impact 2. I used to race with Richard Gomez in Makati and Greenhills that is back in the days. I think I still have most of my cars somewhere. I like the 1/8 off-road better. Ha ha ha. Imho, they are totally waste of money with all the upgrades.

Last post before retiring... I opened up the Shimano XTR 970 BB and behold! It has double seals and a cartridge bearing. I hope this helps whoever wants to upgrade the original bearings. Cheers, --Levi
